HAYWARD – Even while remaining neck and neck with Cal State East Bay, Stanislaus State wasn't able to pull out the win against the Pioneers at the Pioneer Gymnasium Friday night.
Now 8-10, 5-4 in league, the Warriors battled with the Pioneers (8-9, 4-5 CCAA) until the end before falling in three sets 21-25, 17-25, 21-25.
The Warriors held their own in all three sets before coming up short against CSUEB.
In set one the Warriors played an even game until the Cal State East Bay took a 21-14 lead with a six-point run. In set two the Warriors led 10-7, before falling to a seven-point deficit, 15-22. Set three started out similarly with the Warriors in an 11-7 lead. The Pioneers managed to tie the score at 11-11, and the game was back-and-forth before the Pioneers ultimately took the match.
Blair Ehrlich led both team's offense with 18 kills for the night. She also led the Warriors defense with 13 digs. Maddi Seidl followed Ehrlich with eight digs, and Jessica Jimenez and Hailey Gruetzmacher both had seven digs.
Deja Thompson led the Pioneers front row with 11 kills, and Katie Ireland controlled the back row with 18 digs. Ireland also led the match with 27 assists.
The Warriors will be headed back on the road on Saturday as they take on the Otters of Cal State Monterey Bay at 7 p.m.
