Warriors fall short in face-off with Sonoma State

ROHNERT PARK – Even while Stanislaus State managed to overshadow Sonoma State in most statistical aspects of the game, the Warriors weren't able to take home the win against the Seawolves, falling in four sets on Tuesday night at The Wolves Den.
 
Switching places in the CCAA North Division, the Warriors (9-11, 6-5 CCAA) have fallen to third while the Seawolves (8-9, 6-4 CCAA) taking their place in second place. Fighting tough until the end the Warriors pulled out a win in set two before losing two consecutively to drop the match 21-25, 25-15, 17-25, 22-25.
 
Despite the outcome of the match, the Warriors managed to best their opponents in four different statistical components of the game. Overall, the Warriors earned themselves a total of 69 points to the Seawolves 61. Stan State had five blocks to Sonoma States one block, and the Warriors led in the front row with 53 assists and 57 kills, while the Seawolves ended with 50 assists and 52 kills.
 
Setter Maddi Seidl had a strong night with 44 total assists landing just under her personal best of 48 assists. She also had an aggressive match at the net earning seven kills for her team.
 
Blair Ehrlich led the Warriors both offensively and defensively putting down 15 kills and digging up 14 attacks. Two other Warriors hit double digit kills against the Seawolves as well. Daryan Heathcott and Grace Murphy each added to the team offense with 10 kills.
 
Sonoma State's front row was led by hitters Calan Seitz and Emily Papale who each had 11 kills, and Caiti Weisner followed up with 10 kills of her own. Megan Bohorquez led the Seawolves back row with 12 digs.
 
After a short intermission between matches the Warriors will be back in motion on Saturday night as they travel to Chico State to take on the top team in the North Division. The Warriors will face off with the Wildcats at 7 p.m. in the Acker Gym.
