Series Notes: The series between the Warriors and UC San Diego has been close with Stanislaus State holding a 1-0-2 edge in the last three meetings. Last year the Warriors won in La Jolla, 2-1, for the first time. Overall, UC San Diego leads in the head-to-head record 10-4-3 … Cal State San Marcos will face Stanislaus for just the second time as the Cougars are in their second season in the CCAA. Last season, on Sept. 25, the Warriors lost 3-0 in San Marcos.
In the Rankings: UC San Diego is ranked 12th in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America this week. The Tritons are also No. 2 in the West behind Simon Fraser … Cal Poly Pomona is the only other CCAA team in the Top 25 at No. 21.
Those One-Goal Games: The Warriors have been in eight one-goal matches this season and are 1-7 in those contests after Monday's 4-3 double overtime win over Bethesda. The Warriors are also now 1-3-3 in overtime matches in 2016.
Scoring Coming Alive? The Warriors scored seven goals in their last three contests here at home with Rafael Chavel and
Ahmed Mohammed each knocking in a brace (two goals).
Ryan Chaney and
Manny Villegas also scored on Monday while
Matthew Waldron scored the penalty kick for the win.
Productive Week for Duo: Both
Rafael Chavez and
Ahmed Mohammed had productive offensive weeks they each had two goals and assist with both Chavez goals against Cal State East Bay on Wednesday. Chavez also assisted on Mohammed's goal against Chico State (Friday) while Mohammed assisted on
Ryan Chaney's score on Monday.
