TURLOCK — The team with the most prolific scoring offense and the stingiest defense in the California Collegiate Athletic Association was just as advertised as No. 9 UC San Diego defeated Stanislaus State, 3-0, Friday night at Warrior Stadium.
In front of the Warriors' largest home crowd this season of 769, UC San Diego show why it remains undefeated in conference play by advancing to 9-0-0 (13-2-0) to clinch a CCAA Championship tournament berth. Mary Reilly scored twice for the Tritons — the first in the third minute with two great passes to kick-start this offense. Reilly's second goal came 2:04 into the second half and Katie O'Laughlin added a third goal in the 57th minute.
For the Warriors, they created some chances and actually almost scored the game's first goal in the first minute on a
Rayana Plancarte try that went just wide of the left post. However, Stan State dropped to 9-6-0 overall and 3-6-0 in the CCAA.
In the end, UCSD out-shot Stanislaus, 19-7 (5-1 on goal).
UC San Diego, the highest scoring team in the conference now with 42 goals, extended its shutout streak to seven matches — a stretch of 655-plus minutes without allowing a score.
Entering the last three contests of the regular season, the Warriors are six points out of sixth place — the spot they need to be to quality for the CCAA tournament. That run will have to start on Sunday when the Warriors host Cal State San Marcos on Senior Day.
