TURLOCK — Playing for the seniors on Senior Day, and for their playoff lives, the Stanislaus State women's soccer team played exciting soccer en route to a 3-1 win over Cal State San Marcos to remain in the hunt for a tournament berth.

Isela Rivera had her coming out party with a brace and freshman
Ashtyn Bracamonte scored her first collegiate goal to lift the Warriors as they improved to 10-6-0 overall and 4-6-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Cal State San Marcos, which came in as the fourth place team in the CCAA, dropped to 7-4-4, 5-4-1 CCAA.
"What I'm most proud of today was that we imposed our style of play on the match and didn't allow their attempt to make it combative disrupt us," head coach
Gabriel Bolton said. "Our seniors deserved to go out with a win on senior day. They have been great class."
The Warriors closed out the regular season home schedule with a 7-2 mark on home pitch, losing only to the top two teams in the league (UC San Diego and Sonoma State). They hope to win enough games in the next week-and-a-half for a chance to play on the Warrior Stadium pitch again on Nov. 4 during the CCAA tournament.
With two matches on the road remaining, the Warriors can still get into the CCAA Championships with wins at Cal State Monterey Bay and San Francisco State. They will also need some help with teams playing against Cal State L.A., Cal State Dominguez Hills and San Francisco State as these teams are vying for the final spots in the tournament.
CCAA Standings
On Sunday, Stan State also racked up another 10-win season — the program's eighth straight and 10th under Bolton.
Three goals were scored within a five-minute period in the first half. After CSUSM go ahead 1-0 on a Megan Pfrunder goal in the 35th minute, the Warriors responded, quickly and explosively.
First, it was the rookie Bracamonte with her first collegiate goal at 37:35 by out-touching her defender with the ball in the box sent in by Rivera. Rivera had gotten the ball in the zone from a perfect thru-ball played by senior
Gabby Squarcia. Two minutes and 17 seconds later, at 39:52, Rivera gave the Warriors the 2-1 lead by kicking in the corner kick service from Squarcia.
In the 84th minute, Rivera put up the exclamation point by out-jumping two defenders for a header goal for the brace. Senior
Maryssa McDuffy served in a perfect ball on a free kick in front of the home bench. Those were also Rivera's first two goals as a Warrior after sitting out last season on transfer rule (from San Jose State).
"Our team showed fantastic resiliency today. San Marcos is a challenge because they are extremely physical and direct," Bolton added.
The Warriors held CSUSM to just five shots with three on goal.
Stan State gets back on the pitch on the road on Thursday when they take on Cal State Monterey Bay in Seaside. Kickoff is at 12:30 p.m.
