SEASIDE — The Stanislaus State men's soccer team finally has a W to show for for their hard-fought efforts during this CCAA season as the Warriors defeated Cal State Monterey Bay, 2-1, Thursday at the Otter Sports Complex.
The Warriors scored twice in about two minutes in the second half to rally from a 1-0 deficit for the victory to finally hang a one in the first column. Stanislaus State will take its 3-10-4 overall, 1-9-1 CCAA record into Saturday's finale at San Francisco State and hopes for a winning streak to close out the rebuilding year.
Stanislaus State extended its unbeaten streak against Cal State Monterey Bay to nine since 2011 and is now 8-1-0 against the Otters during this stretch.
Matthew Waldron, who scored twice last Sunday against Cal State San Marcos, netted the first score at 70:47 to make it 1-0. Waldron intercepted a clearing attempt by the Otters (4-9-2, 1-8-2 CCAA) and slotted into the right side of the net to even the score.
Two minutes later, at 72:51,
Sean Bender scored the eventual game-winner on an assist by Waldron. This time, CSUMB again turned the ball over with Waldron breaking up a pass. Waldron then sent it to Bender for a wide open goal.
Stanislaus State also earn a win in a one-goal match for once this season as they had gone 0-7 in seven one-goal CCAA contests.
Saturday's game at San Francisco State's Cox Stadium is at 2 p.m.
