Warriors outstanding offense doesn't quite hold up against Sonoma

TURLOCK – Despite their ability to maintain a strong offense, Stanislaus State volleyball fell to Sonoma State in four sets on Friday night at Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena.
 
The Warriors, now 9-13, 6-7 in the CCAA, were neck and neck with the Seawolves (11-9, 9-4 CCAA) before losing in four sets, 19-25, 25-21, 19-25, 18-25.  
 
Despite the outcome, the Warriors played a strong game against Sonoma State. Stan State totaled 59 kills to the Seawolves 58, and with 15 hitting errors the Warriors tallied one less than the Seawolves 16 errors. In all, Stan State earned themselves 68 points during the match, while Sonoma State earned 65.
 
Blair Ehrlich and Taylor Massengale tied as Warrior kill leaders with 17 kills each. With only four hitting errors, Massengale ended with a .406 hitting percentage.
 
Daryan Heathcott had an outstanding night in the front with 12 kills, her highest yet since becoming a Warrior. Heathcott also did not make a single error on any of her 22 total hitting attempts, posting a .545 attacking percentage.
 
Setter Maddi Seidl set a new season high with 49 assists against the Seawolves. Her previous season high was 48 assists, which she set on Sept. 30th against Cal State San Bernardino.
 
Ehrlich led both teams defensively with a total of 24 digs, a new career high for her. She was followed by Seidl with 13 digs, and Jocelyn Cervantes and Hailey Gruetzmacher each dug 10.
 
Leading the Seawolves in the front row was outside hitter Caiti Weisner with 18 kills. She was followed by Rachel Andrews with 13 kills. Libero Ashleigh Phelps led the Seawolves defense with 16 digs.
 
The Warriors will be back in Fitzpatrick Arena on Saturday night as they take on San Francisco State at 7 p.m.
