POMONA — A late goal by the Broncos broke a 1-1 tie as host Cal Poly Pomona defeated Stanislaus State, 2-1, in a women's soccer match Friday afternoon at Kellogg Field.
Stan State's
Jade Poon had even the score at one apiece with a penalty kick goal in the 60th minute, however, a Natalie Di Angelo header in the 84th minute sent the Warriors to 1-4-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Stanislaus State is 7-4-0 overall.
"(Give) full credit to Cal Poly they were the most aggressive team today," head coach
Gabriel Bolton said.
After a scoreless first half, the Broncos (5-4-2, 4-2-1 CCAA) took a 1-0 lead in the 57th minute on a Sydney Yates score.
Cal Poly Pomona out-shot the Warriors 18-6 with a 9-4 shots on goal advantage.
Haley Crook had seven saves in goal for Stanislaus State, which travels to face Cal State San Bernardino on Sunday.
"I was pleased with the way we bounced back from going down one to zero. We showed outstanding character," Bolton commented. "We just need to refocus and put in a great effort on Sunday against San Bernardino."
