SAN BERNARDINO — Despite putting up inspiring efforts late in the match, the Stanislaus State women's soccer team came up just short in a 1-0 loss at Cal State San Bernardino on Sunday.
Numerous golden scoring chances bounced in favor of the host Coyotes as the Warriors dropped their third consecutive California Collegiate Athletic Association match to fall to 1-5-0 in league play. Stan State is 7-5-0 overall.
"I though our effort and intensity level in the last 15 minutes of the match was amazing. We saw what we are capable of during those minutes," head coach Gabriel Bolton said.
The Warriors had two shots hit the cross bar and another ricochet off the post in the final 10 minutes. In fact, the Warriors peppered the Coyotes in rapid fire fashion, out-shooting them 7-2 in that stretch. There were four consecutive shot attempts in the final 100 seconds of the contest.
At 84:15, A
Jade Poon try hit the post. A couple of wide shots and a shot-blocked later, a
Gabriela Vargas attempt also hit the post at 89:19.
Earlier in the contest a
Maryssa McDuffy try also hit the cross bar and a
Mikayla Clifford header bounced off the post.
The Warriors, though, only had three shots in the first 35 minutes of the second half and three shots in the entire first half.
"We have to learn how to play at that level for all 90 minutes. The good news is we have an opportunity to show that grow on Wednesday," Bolton added.
Cal State San Bernardino (6-5-1, 5-2-1 CCAA) netted its goal in the 52nd minute on a Rachel Figg goal. The Coyotes almost made it 2-0 with a penalty kick try in the 70th minute, but
Haley Crook stopped the attempt. Crook ended up with eight saves.
The Warriors will host Cal State East Bay Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at Warrior Stadium.
