TURLOCK – With a balanced offense led by
Taylor Massengale, Stanislaus State easily disassembled the Humboldt State Lumberjacks in straight sets on Saturday night at Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena.
Now 7-9 overall, 4-3 in league the Warriors had a straight set victory against the Lumberjacks (10-5, 3-3 CCAA), winning each set by six points or more (25-18, 25-17, 25-19).
Stan State started off set one with a five-point run served by
Jessica Jimenez. Sarah Schell served an eight-point run to pull the Warriors ahead 21-13 at the end of the set. The Warriors rounded out the match with a six-point run in set three, which turned out to be the margin of victory for the Warriors winning set three 25-19.
Massengale led the Warriors offense with an amazing .579 hitting percentage. She had 12 kills on 19 attempts with just one error on her final attack. Massengale also finished out the match for the Warriors with two consecutive aces.
Assisting Massengale in the front row, the Warriors had three other players with seven or more kills.
Blair Ehrlich had 11 kills while both
Morgan Miller and
Lindsay Skadeland added seven kills.
The Warriors team defense was strong totaling seven blocks and 47 digs. Massengale led blocking efforts with five total blocks (one solo) and Ehrlich ran the back row with 14 digs.
Leading the Lumberjacks was right side hitter Alex Hasenstab with eight kills. Sarah Shively had 14 digs, and Nicole Bianchi followed with 10 digs.
Before the Warriors come back to Fitzpatrick Arena on October 28
th to challenge Sonoma State, they will be playing five matches on the road, including four in an eight-day period.
