LOS ANGELES – Stanislaus State's balanced offense resulted in yet another upset, a domination over Cal State L.A., giving the Warriors a straight set win, 25-20, 25-21, 25-20, at the Eagles Nest on Friday night.
Now 12-14 overall, 9-8 in league play, the Warriors swept the Golden Eagles (15-9, 11-5 CCAA), securing third place in the CCAA North.
Cal State East Bay concluded its regular season play Thursday night with a 9-9 CCAA record and the Warriors could do no worse than a 9-9 record after tomorrow night's match at Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Warriors hold the tie-break advantage over the Pioneers based on sets won-loss in conference play.
Stan State will qualify for the CCAA Volleyball Championship for the second straight year and will face the second place team from the CCAA South, which will be Cal State L.A. when the tournament begins next Thursday in San Bernardino.
Friday night, the Warriors were able to spread out their offense throughout the match, which proved to be too difficult for the Golden Eagles to defend. Stan State had six players with five or more kills.
Blair Ehrlich led the match with 10 kills, and
Lindsay Skadeland smashed nine with only one error (.615).
Taylor Massengale had eight kills (.500), also making only one error during the match.
Jocelyn Cervantes had seven kills (.500),
Daryan Heathcott put-away six and setter
Maddi Seidl had an aggressive night at the net with five kills (.625).
Libero
Hailey Gruetzmacher led the Warriors back row with nine total digs. She was followed by outside hitters Ehrlich and Cervantes who each had seven digs.
Paige Walker and Seidl also contributed to the Warriors scrappy defense with four digs each.
JamieAnna Bero led the Golden Eagles front row with nine kills. Chloe Clancy led the Eagles on defense with nine digs. Setter Kelsey Molnar facilitated Cal State L.A.'s offense with 25 assists.
Stan State will be traveling to Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday for their final regular season match.
