Hardin nets 31, Warriors rally to challenge San Jose State

SAN JOSE — With each Division I game this preseason, the Stanislaus State women's basketball team improved and gave its higher-division opponents a scare. This time, in a late Sunday matinee at San Jose State, the Warriors used a late surge to rattle the nerves of the Spartans before dropping a 90-85 decision.

Reana Hardin had her career best game with 31 points and Cassidy Sanders-Curry posted the team's first double-double this season before the Warriors dropped to 5-7 overall after a tremendous effort against the Mountain West Conference team. San Jose State (3-9) was the Warriors' fifth Division I opponent this season.

Hardin made her mark with a 12 of 21 shooting night with five three-pointers (on 10 tries). She had tied her previous career-high with 21 points in the first three periods before adding 10 more in the final quarter. Sanders-Curry had 15 points and 11 rebounds, both season-highs.

The Warriors rallied from down 15 points in the third to making it a three-point game in the final seconds. San Jose State made the first bucket in the fourth for a 14-point lead before Stan State make a run.

After a Riley Holladay score, Hardin nailed two three-pointers plus a fast-break layup for a 10-0 Warrior run to cut the deficit down to four points. The Spartans would go back up by eight points but was held without a field goal in the final 3:50 to allow another Stanislaus late-run.

The Warriors got as close as three points on a Sanders-Curry layup with 13 seconds remaining, but SJSU held on with a pair of free throws by Dezz Ramos with six ticks left.

Stan State outscored San Jose State 48-40 in the second half by shooting 50 percent from the floor. The Warriors ended up 41.9 percent shoting for the game.

Holladay finished with 10 points and Leticia Infante had eight points. Aside from Hardin's 5-for-10 shooting from distance, the rest of the team made 1 of 12 attempts from the arch.

San Jose State had a pair of player in the 20s with Jasmine Smith scoring 25 points with 10 rebounds. Ramos finished with 20 points and 10 assists.

In the Warriors' most recent game against a D-I team, on Dec. 6, the Warriors held a 7-point lead against Cal State Bakersfield.
