SAN BERNARDINO — After an 11-day break from competition, the Stanislaus State women's basketball team resume play with a 66-56 win on the road to improve to 4-0 in conference play on Thursday.
The Warriors recovered from a slow start with a strong second half and
Cassidy Sanders-Curry scored 23 points to lead Stanislaus as the Warriors improved to 6-7 overall and 4-0 in California Collegiate Athletic Association action.
Sanders-Curry made four three-pointers and was 6 of 9 from the field for her 23 points. She also made 7 of 10 free throw shots.
Ana Burch scored 11 points with six rebounds and
Riley Holladay led the team with nine rebounds.
The Warriors closed out the third quarter on an 11-0 run for a 46-33 lead to control the game. CSUSB went on a 10-2 run to answer that Stan State spark to get within five points, but Stanislaus maintained the advantage the rest of the way.
The Coyotes (5-4, 2-2 CCAA) got within three on a Ashley Carson three-pointer with 2:23 to play, but Sanders-Curry nailed consecutive triples and a pair of free throws for eight unanswered points to seal the victory.
Stan State shot just 27.6 percent in the first half but teams were even at 27-27 at the break. The Warriors out-scored the Coyotes, 39-29.
San Bernardino was led by Casie Johnson and Mya Johnson, each with 13 points.
Stanislaus State will face UC San Diego (4-1 CCAA) Friday night in La Jolla in a match-up of early-season CCAA leaders.
