Warriors win first CCAA matchup against Cal State Dominguez Hills

CARSON – The Stanislaus State women's basketball team earned their first conference win 66-53 against Cal State Dominguez Hills in their first CCAA game of the season at the Torodome on Friday night.
 
Now 3-6 overall, the Warriors have entered the regular season with momentum after earning their first league win, making them 1-0 in the CCAA. The Toros are now 3-6 overall, 0-1 in league.
 
Reana Hardin and Riley Holladay were the Warriors dynamic duo, carrying Stan State with their sharp shooting and aggressive rebounding. Hardin led the team with 17 points and pulled seven rebounds. Holladay was the Warriors leading rebounder with nine and added 14 points which is a new season-high.  
 
Two more Warriors scored double-digits with Cassidy Sanders-Curry netting 11 points and Leticia Infante with 10. Sanders-Curry also added five rebounds for the Warriors.
 
Overall the Warriors shot 42 percent against the Toros. Hardin went 6-for-10 and Sanders-Curry went 4-for-7 during the night.
 
The Warriors started off the first quarter with a six-point deficit, giving the Torors a 7-1 lead. By the end of the quarter, the Warriors had surpassed the Toros, leading 16-12. Their momentum continued including a 10-0 run late in the second quarter as the Warriors took a 36-21 halftime lead. They outscored CSUDH 20-9 in the second period.

The Toros were led by Simone Thompson with 10 points, and Imari Brown with 11 rebounds. Brown also had five assists, the most for both teams.
 
Heading back home after their only competition of the weekend, the Warriors head back to Turlock before traveling to Cal State Bakersfield on Tuesday for another Division I matchup. Unless the three previous games against Division I opponents, this game will count in the win-loss records. Next weekend, the Warriors host Cal State Monterey Bay and Humboldt State.
