TURLOCK – In it's CCAA home opening match, Stanislaus State defeated Cal State Monterey Bay 56-45 on Friday night at Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena.
Achieving their second conference victory of the season, the Warriors advanced to 4-6 overall and 2-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Otters fell to 3-6 overall, 0-3 in league.
Stan State proved to be a tough competitor, not once giving away the lead after tying the game at 3-3. In the third quarter, the Warriors fought their way to a 16-point lead, at 43-27, their largest on the night.
Ana Burch dominated at the hoop with 17 points and
Riley Holladay also scored double digits with 11 points.
Stanislaus State controlled the boards, out-rebounding the Otters 52-28.
Leticia Infante led the Warriors with a whopping 14 rebounds, the highest in her career. Six of those rebounds were offensive.
Cassidy Sanders-Curry had eight rebounds,
Reana Hardin and
Erika Larsen each had six.
The Warriors totaled six blocks during the game, Sanders-Curry, Larsen, and Holladay each taking credit for two.
An 8-0 run to start the second half stretched a 24-18 lead to double digits, 32-18, with 5:42 in the third period. Back to back buckets by Burch to start the fourth gave Stan State its biggest lead at 16 points.
Overall the Warriors shot 33.3 percent for the night. Their resilient defensive efforts were able to keep the their opponent shooting at 25.4 percent.
Leading the Otters was Victoria Dorn with 14 points. Courtney Keaton led with seven rebounds, three blocks, and three steals.
The Warriors will be back at Fitzpatrick Arena Saturday night for another conference matchup against Humboldt State at 5:30 p.m.
