LA JOLLA — Despite 21 points from
Christian Bayne, the Stanislaus State men's basketball team just couldn't keep up with the No. 6 ranked team in Division II as host UC San Diego defeated the Warriors, 70-55, Saturday night.
Bayne, who was 7 of 14 from the field and made four three-pointers, scored 21 points — his biggest total since a career-high 26 on Nov. 28 at Fresno Pacific. Bayne has scored in double figures in all but one game this season (and he had eight in that contest at Chico State). The sophomore guard is just two points from 300 points this season. He's averaging 13.9 points per game.
The Warriors (5-16, 4-12 CCAA), however, have lost 11 straight games, one shy of tying the record they don't want to break. The 2004-05 team lost 12 straight en route to a 7-20 season.
UC San Diego, on the other hand, rebounded from a mild upset by No. 9 Chico State on Friday to improve to 19-4, 14-3 CCAA in second place.
Aleks Lipovic led UCSD with 15 points, Adam Klie scored 12 and Drew Dyer had 11 points. All three had five rebounds each as the Tritons out-rebounded Stan State, 45-28.
Stephen Evans scored 11 and Kyle Gouviea chipped in eight points with three blocked shots for the Warriors.
Stan State is home next weekend, hosting Humboldt State (Friday) and Cal Poly Pomona (Saturday).
