Warriors, Ragsdale win twice behind strong offense

TURLOCK — Kiley Ragsdale won twice in the circle and the Warriors had plently of offense as they swept Cal State San Marcos to open the home season on Friday.

Alexus Martinez scored the game-winner for the Warriors' 3-2 walk-off win in game one. Then, Stanislaus scored eight times in the third inning en route to a 11-1, five-inning, win for the doubleheader sweep.

Stanislaus improved to 5-6 overall and 2-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association while Cal State San Marcos dropped to 4-10, 2-4 CCAA.

Morgan Balestreri went 3-for-3 and drove in four runs in the second game to finish the day with four hits to lead the Warriors. She had two doubles in the late afternoon game.

Ragsdale improved her personal record to 4-5 with two solid starts. She threw all 12 innings on the day and gave up a total of one earned run on six hits with eight strikeouts.

After giving up two unearned runs to CSUSM in the first game's second inning, the Warriors tied the game in the fifth to set-up the walk-off win.

A Katelyn McDonald single to right moved Martinez to third, but the throw in from the Cougars' right fielder went wide and bounced around the backstop allowing the game-winner to score.

In game two's 8-run second inning, the Warriors sent 12 batters to the plate and needed just five hits that included doubles by McDonald and Balestreri. The inning also included three walks, a hit-batter, and a wild pitch.

Teams will finish off the four-game set on Saturday with the twinbill starting at 11 a.m.
