TURLOCK — As is the ammo for most of the 2015-16 season, a balanced scoring attack paved the way for another Stanislaus State women's basketball team win as the Warriors defeated Cal Poly Pomona, 76-65, Saturday night.
The Warriors had seven players with seven points or more — and another with six points — as they improved to 16-8 overall and 12-6 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Stanislaus holds home court to improve to 10-1 at Fitzpatrick Arena.
That incredible 10-1 home record is a huge reason why a home game for the first round of the CCAA Tournament will be important as the season winds down, into the postseason. The top four seeded teams in the eight-team tournament will play host in a first round game on March 1.
With Cal State San Bernardino also winning Friday night, the Warriors' best shot at hosting that Tuesday night game will be to win one of two games next week, starting with a road game at Cal State L.A. A Cal State San Bernardino defeat (at home against Sonoma State or San Francisco State) would help, too.
Stan State provided itself that potential home court advantage by sweeping a key weekend with wins over Humboldt State and Cal Poly Pomona.
In Saturday's win over the Broncos (10-16, 8-11 CCAA),
Alysa Valentine had the high points total with 12 and
Riley Holladay scored 11 with nine rebounds.
Jasmine Washington chipped in nine points, then three players —
Aleseana Whitney,
Ana Burch and
Cassidy Sanders-Curry — each had eight points.
Rounding out the balance scoring on the stats sheet were seven points from
Reana Hardin and six from
Erika Larsen.
Taylor Faucett wasn't far behind with five points.
Entering the week, the Warriors have eight players averaging between 9.0 points and 4.9 points per game.
Saturday's final boxscore also show that the Warriors made 11 three-pointers and forced 21 Pomona turnovers. Friday night, Stan State forced Humboldt State to turn the ball over 26 times.
Priscilla Brooks had 19 points and nine rebounds while Mary Williams had 13 points for Cal Poly Pomona.
