SAN BERNARDINO — The offense keeps on clicking as the Stanislaus State softball team split a tough doubleheader at Cal State San Bernardino on Friday with a 4-3 game one win before coming up short in game two, 6-4.
Katelyn McDonald doubled and homered and
Kylie Ragsdale went the distance in game one for the 4-3 win as the Warriors ran their winning streak to five games. But in the nightcap, the Coyotes earned a twinbill split by holding on to a narrow 6-4 win.
The Warriors, now 8-7 overall and 5-5 in the CCAA, and Cal State San Bernardino (11-8, 6-4 CCAA) will play two more to complete the series on Saturday.
Stan State scattered 11 hits in each game of Friday's doubleheader and has scored four runs in each of the last four games.
In Friday's first game, a solo homer by McDonald followed a leadoff double by
Morgan Balestreri in the fourth inning made it 3-1. Then Balestreri's sac fly in the fifth scored
Cheyenne Harper for the 4-1 lead. CSUSB tried to rally in the sixth by pushing across a couple of runs on four hits in the inning that included two doubles, by Ragsdale prevented further damage with an infield pop-up with two runners in scoring position.
Ragsdale also escape a jam in the home half of the seventh as the Coyotes loaded the bases with one out. But Ragsdale strikeout a Coyote and got the final out with a fly ball to right to end the game.
McDonald, Harper and
Ruby Quiralte, who doubled twice, all ended up 2-for-4 in the first game.
A pinch hit double by
Bryanna Menor that scored two runs highlighted a three-run sixth inning of game two as the Warriors rallied from down 5-1.
Cassidy Duke, who went 2-for-3, also singled in a run in that inning.
Amy Pedretti also had two hits in the late game.
