TURLOCK — Jalen Richard put-up 30 points on eight three-pointers as Cal State East Bay led from the tip to run past Stanislaus State, 73-53, Saturday night at Fitzpatrick Arena.

The Pioneers jumped out to a 17-2 run in the first five minutes of the game on five three-pointers as the last place team in the CCAA improved to 8-15 overall and 4-11 in league play. The short-handed Stanislaus State team's struggles continued with its ninth straight defeat and the Warriors dropped to 5-14 and 4-10.

Richard made two of those early three-pointers for CSUEB before finishing on a 8-for-11 night from the arch. He also made 3 of 7 for two-pointers to end up with 30 points. Jack Pasquini had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Stan State, which is now down two starters with Richard Medina (foot) and Alek Carlson (shoulder) sidelined, was led by Kyi Thomas with 14 points. Christian Bayne had 12 and Kyle Gouveia 10 points. Gouveia also had seven rebounds.

CSUEB had a 20-point lead at 5:18 to play in the first half before a 35-19 advantage at the break.

The Warriors attempted a comeback and got within five points, 50-45, with 7:24 left to play, but the Pioneers pulled back ahead on a 12-0 run to put the game away.

Joey Bennett, who made a start in place of Carlson, had ignited the 10-3 run that got Stanislaus within five points.
