TURLOCK — The Warriors softball team won twice on Saturday to improve to 9-1 on their home field as they swept a conference doubleheader over Cal State East Bay.
Cassidy Duke went 3-for-3 and
Ruby Quiralte drove in the two go-ahead runs late in game one for a 6-4 win. Stan State sprayed 13 more hits in game two to again rally from behind for a 6-4 win.
The Warriors are now 13-10 overall and 10-8 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Cal State East Bay dropped to 6-10, 3-7 in CCAA play.
Quiralte followed her 2-for-4 first game with a 3-for-4 second game for a five-hit day. In fact, the first five batters in the Stanislaus order accounted for 20 of the team's 25 hits on the day as
Alexus Martinez,
Nicolette Vizcaino,
Katelyn McDonald, Duke and Quiralte combined to go 20-for-38 (.526) with 10 runs batted in in the twinbill.
Trailing 4-3 in game one, a McDonald single that scored Vizcaino started the sixth inning score. The Warriors tagged on two more runs to go ahead in the game when Quiralte's single to center scored Duke and
Marissa Ortiz for the 6-3 count.
Karina Callazo got the win in game one with 2 1/3 perfect innings without allowing a baserunner. Callazo also picked up a win in the nightcap when she allowed just one hit in four innings with two strikeouts.
Kylie Ragsdale threw the final inning for a save.
Callazo kept the Pioneers quiet allowing Stan State to come back from down 3-0. Tied at 3-3 in the fifth,
Morgan Balestreri's triple to left-center plated
Brianna Martens and
Natalie Dorsey for the go-ahead runs.
The teams managed to get two of the four games in the series in after Friday's rain. The make-up date for the other two games of the series is Wednesday, April 13, a 4 p.m. start in Turlock.
