TURLOCK — The Warriors hit back-to-back-to-back homers as they flexed their offensive muscles against Hawaii Pacific to start their schedule at the Tournament of Champions sponsored by the City of Turlock on Friday.
The annual event, now in its 15th season, is hosted by Stanislaus State and held at three locations throughout Turlock. Games are being played at Pedretti Sports Complex, Turlock Regional Sports Complex, and Warrior Softball Field from Friday to Sunday.
The Warriors, however, lost the nightcap to Notre Dame de Namur, 9-8 after staging a comeback before the Argonauts scored the winning run in the seventh.
In the game against Hawaii Pacific Friday afternoon, the Warriors hit three consecutive homers in the fourth inning to break a scoreless tie.
Ruby Quiralte hit the first pitch she saw and sent it over the center field fence. Then, on the very next pitch,
Alex Rowell hit a dinger to left.
Cassidy Duke then followed with her homer on a 1-2 count to make it 3-0 Warriors.
Katelyn McDonald then belted a two-run bomb to right field on the first pitch she saw in the at bat in the fifth inning to make it 5-0. Stan State would score two more runs in the fifth on a RBi single by
Brianna Martens. Duke stole home later in the inning for the 7-0 lead.
In the nightcap, McDonald again went 2-for-3 with a double and drove in two runs.
Morgan Balestreri's two-run single in the seventh tied the game at 8-8 as part of the Stan State rally. The Warriors scored six runs in the final three innings to comeback from down 6-2.
Alexus Martinez,
Nicolette Vizcaino, Balestreri and
Jill Costa each also had two hits in the second game.
