Quiralte stays hot, hits walkoff as Warriors win twice

TURLOCK — Ruby Quiralte continues to be the hottest hitter at the plate as she hit the long balls on Saturday to lead the Warriors to two wins at the Tournament of Champions.

Stanislaus State, now 3-1 in the tournament, defeated Academy of Art 3-0 in the eighth inning and then beat Holy Names, 6-3, in the second game.

With a scoreless tie after a pitching duel, Quiralte belted a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to end the game. Nicolette Vizcaino drew a walk and Katelyn McDonald reached on a fielder's choice. With two on, Quiralte sent the first pitch over the tall left-center field wall to win the game.

In the circle Karina Callazo out-dueled Brenna Mitchell, throwing a one-hit, eight-inning shutout. She struckout one batter and retired the first eight batters and the last eight Urban Knights in the game.

In the nightcap, the Warriors scored three unearned runs in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead. Stan State then scored three more, keyed by a Quiralte triple and doubles by Amy Pedretti and Bryanna Menor to make it 6-0.

McDonald, Pedretti, Menor, Alexus Martinez and Quiralte each had two hits in the second game.

Quiralte was part of the Warrior trio that hit three consecutive homeruns on Friday over Hawaii Pacific. She is so far 6-for-12 with five RBI, two homers and scored four times in the tournament.

The Warriors improved to 20-17 overall and will face Hawaii Hilo, at 11:15 a.m. on Warrior Softball Field, and Chaminade at 4:30 p.m. at Pedretti Sports Complex on Sunday.
