TURLOCK — The Warriors pounded out 18 hits and scored 13 runs in the tournament's final game as Stanislaus State defeated Chaminade, 13-5, to wrap up the 15th Annual Tournament of Champions.
Stanislaus State finished 4-2 for eighth place in the 26-team event, won by Humboldt State for the third consecutive year. HSU, the No. 3 rank team in Division II, went 6-0 over the three-day tournament. Chico State also finished 6-0 but Humboldt State was declared the winner by the run differential tiebreaker.
For the Warriors, it was their most successful Tournament of Champions since 2011 when they went 4-3. Only the NCAA Tournament team of 2009 won more game (5-1) during this annual affair.
The Warriors are now 21-18 overall and is just one win away from having the most successful season since 2009, when that team advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals in St. George, Utah.
Sunday night, in Stan State's finale, the Warriors' sticks were busy as every starter had at least a hit. In all, the team collected 18 hits off three Chaminade pitchers. Of those 18 hits, 15 of them were singles as
Alexus Martinez,
Katelyn McDonald and
Cassidy Duke had doubles.
Ruby Quiralte, who was named to the All-Tournament team, went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in to finish a great weekend. In six tournament games, Quiralte was 11-for-23 (.478) with a double, a triple and two homers (.870 slugging percentage) while driving in eight runs to lead the offense. She also scored seven runs. One of her homers was a three-run walkoff bomb in a 3-0, 8-inning win on Saturday.
Amy Pedretti — playing at the Pedretti Sports Complex — went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs against Chaminade.
Bryanna Menor also went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs.
Doubles by McDonald and Duke in the third were part of a five-run third inning that helped the Warriors take over the game after trailing 3-0.
Karina Callazo and
Kylie Ragsdale combined for the victory in the circle with Ragsdale tossing the final five innings to earn the win.
Earlier in the day, Hawaii Hilo scored five runs in the top of the seventh to rally from behind to beat Stan State, 6-4, at Warrior Softball Field. Quiralte was 2-for-3 in that game.
