ARCATA — Third rank Humboldt State continues to roll as the Lumberjacks won their eighth straight after taking both ends of the CCAA doubleheader on Friday.
The Stanislaus State Warriors found out why HSU is hard to beat, especially at home, with 8-0 and 9-2 decisions at HSU Softball Field.
Alex Rowell had two hits with two doubles as one of the few highlights for Stan State before the Warriors fell to 21-20 overall and 13-15 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Meanwhile, the Lumberjacks — winners of last week's Tournament of Champions in Turlock — improved to 33-3-1 overall and 22-2 in first place of the CCAA.
Darian Harris and
Breonna Bejaran homered in the fourth inning of game one for Humboldt State in the 8-0, five-inning game.
Stan State pitcher
Kylie Ragsdale was cruising alone in the first three innings without allowing a hit — until the HSU fourth when the Lumberjcaks scored five runs, keyed by those two homers and a Kalyn Paque double. Paque also homered in the nightcap.
The Warriors did manage to keep Hanna Holland off the basepaths for the most part as the NFCA National Player of the Week went 0-for-3 in game one and 1-for-3 in the second game. Holland also walked in game two and stole two bases, increasing her national lead to 50.
The Warriors scored lone runs in the second and fifth innings of game two. Rowell doubled to left to score
Amy Pedretti to give Stanislaus a brief lead. HSU scored three runs in the bottom of the second to take-over the game. Stan State's fifth inning run also came from a RBI double, this time by
Alexus Martinez, scoring
Marissa Ortiz, who pinch-ran for Rowell. Rowell had reached with an one-out double to left again.
The four-game series completes on Saturday with a pair of games starting at 11 a.m. before a busy week ahead at home for Stanislaus State. The Warriors will host doubleheaders next Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
