TURLOCK — After arriving late to today's date, the Sonoma State Seawolves didn't take long to warm-up to play as they pounded out hits in the twinbill sweep over Stanislaus State on a windy Friday evening in Turlock.
A five-run third inning of game one set the tone for the rest of the day as SSU won 9-3 and 10-0 to improve its record to 26-18 and 18-13 while snapping a four-game losing streak. In those four games, at Humboldt State, the Seawolves scored just four runs.
In the third inning of Friday's doubleheader, they scored five to take a 5-2 lead and never really let up the rest of the night.
By the end of the long night — after the series started 50 minutes late as the Seawolves were stuck in traffic — Sonoma State scored 19 runs on 26 hits. In the nightcap, Brielle Vidmar flirted with a no-hitter before allowing back to back hits with one out in the seventh. Still, she got the final two outs to record the shutout.
Cassidy Duke broke-up the no-no with a solid single to left and
Alex Rowell sent a shot high and deep to center, but fell five foot short of a homer for a long single with one out.
In the first game, Stan State (23-24, 15-19 CCAA) got on the board with runs in the first and second.
Ruby Quiralte doubled in
Alexus Martinez in the first and a throwing error in the second that scored
Amy Pedretti gave the Warriors a 2-0 lead.
But SSU scored five times in the third on five hits — four of them doubles — and the hit-parade was on. In all, the Seawolves had nine extra base hits, including seven doubles, a triple and a homer by Carlie Daniel in game one.
Quiralte ended up going 4-for-4 in game one while Martinez and
Katelyn McDonald each had two hits.
The series concludes on Saturday starting at Noon with Pedretti, the Warriors' only senior, being recognized in a pregame ceremony on Senior Day.
