TURLOCK — The Warriors used three slap hits for the walkoff win in the rubber game of the series as Stanislaus State beat Sonoma State, 1-0, in the second game of the doubleheader on Saturday.
Stanislaus State concluded the home schedule with a victory and finished 18-10 in home games.
Sonoma State won game one, 9-3, to take the first three games from Stan State, which saw its record now at 24-25 overall and 16-20 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. But the Warriors were able to finally break through in the bottom of the eighth of the finale with three straight singles by slappers for the victory.
Morgan Balestreri led off the eighth with a slash hit to left to flip the lineup back up to the top.
Alexus Martinez then bounced one up the middle past the SSU second baseman to set up runners at the corners without an out.
Nicolette Vizcaino became the hero of the day when she hit a soft liner over the drawn in second baseman Lindsey Calcanyblair to drive in the winner.
That sequence finally ended the scoreless tie and a pitching duel between
Karina Callazo and Brielle Vidmar. Vidmar, who took a no-hitter into the seventh Friday night, again held the Warriors to two hits until the eighth.
But Callazo was the winner on the day — a senior day in honor of
Amy Pedretti. Callazo allowed the defense to do the work to help her as she threw all eight innings and gave up six hits and a walk without a strikeout.
Balestreri and Vizcaino ended up with two hits each in the finale game.
Game one belonged to Sonoma State as the Seawolves (now, 27-19, 19-14 CCAA after the split) scored six runs in the fifth for an 8-0 lead. Stanislaus avoided the mercy-rule game by scoring three times in the home half of the fifth. Pedretti highlighted the Warriors sixth with a two-run, two-out single to right.
Martinez went 3-for-4 and
Ruby Quiralte was 2-for-4 in game one.
The Warriors will travel to play their final conference series at Cal State Monterey Bay next weekend.
