Warriors salvage a win at UC San Diego with tons of offense

LA JOLLA — As it was the case for all three games of the series, the Warrior offense kept swing the bats and scoring as they scattered 13 more hits to beat UC San Diego, 11-8, in the finale on Sunday.

Patrick Mulry homered and Gino Franceschetti went 3-for-5 as Stanislaus State went 1-2 in the series at UC San Diego. The Warriors are now 16-14 overall and 8-11 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

It was the Warriors' turn for a big inning as they scored six times in the third to take a 8-0 lead. Kyle Nixon doubled in two runs and Scott Stetson drove in two scores with a double as well to highlight the inning.

Stanislaus State also scored two more times in the fourth for a 10-0 lead before UC San Diego mounts a comeback.

The Tritons would out-score Stan State 8-1 the rest of the way but the Warriors held on for the win.

Mulry, who doubled in the first and scored, hit a solo homer in the fifth for his sixth of the season. In the end, he finished 2-for-3. Gino Franceschetti went 3-for-5 on the day with Michael Chavarria, Aldo Koutsoyanopulos and Nick Ippolito each all collected two hits.

In the last three games he's played in, Franceschetti has gone 7-for-11 with five runs batted in.

On the mound, Robbie DeVries earns his second straight win as a starter, going five innings. He gave up three runs on five hits, walked three and struckout one for the win. Micah Hall and Ryan Paramo also pitched in the game.

In the three-game set at UC San Diego, the Warriors pounded out 34 hits and scored 23 runs — 29 hits and 21 runs in two of the three games.
