TURLOCK –
Blair Ehrlich set a career milestone while leading the Warriors to a CCAA opener victory as Stanislaus State swept Cal State Monterey Bay in straight sets at Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena Friday night.
The Warriors beat the Otters, 25-21, 25-23, 25-21, to improve to 4-5 overall and 1-0 in league play. The Otters fell to 5-3 and 0-1 in CCAA.
During the first set, outside hitter Ehrlich reached a milestone with her 1,000th career kill. She had entered the night needing just five to reach the plateau only three previous Warriors had reached. Hall of Famer Sarah Barnett had set the career mark at 1,401, a number Ehrlich could reach by season's end. Lianne Vicchio (1383) and Angie Tribble (1204) were the other two former Warriors to pass the 1000-kill mark.
Ehrlich totaled 14 kills and contributed 16 digs on the night against the Otters. She was backed by
Victoria Larsen who spiked nine balls of her own.
Quickly into the first set, the Warriors gained a 7-2 lead with
Taylor Massengale serving. Stan State had runs of four or more points six other times throughout the match.
Jocelyn Cervantes led the Warriors defense with 25 digs. She also added six assists to help out setter
Maddi Seidl's 31. Seidl had 10 digs as well.
CSU Monterey Bay's front row was led by Anela Visesio with 12 kills and Whitney Hirst led the Otters back row with 18 digs.
The Warriors are back at Fitzpatrick Arena Saturday night at 7 p.m. as they take on Cal State East Bay. The Pioneers lost to Chico State in straight sets Friday night in Chico.
