LOS ANGELES — For the second consecutive match on this Southern California trip, the Stanislaus State men's soccer team missed some goal opportunities as the Warrriors came up short on a second 1-goal loss on Sunday. This time a 1-0 setback at Cal State L.A.
Steven Eberle provided the only score of the match for the Golden Eagles in the 25th minute as L.A. remains unbeaten at 3-0-2, 2-0-0 CCAA. The Warriors suffered their second CCAA defeat and dropped to 0-3-3 overall and 0-2-0 CCAA. All three losses this season were by one goal, including Friday's double overtime loss at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Stan State definitely had some scoring chances, especially during a stretch in the first half. But a couple of shots were saved off the line and another attempt was blocked by a Golden Eagles defender.
Teams were even on their shots, 9-9.
Manny Villegas took three of those shots for the Warriors, the side ended up with three shots on goal. Goalkeeper
Tomas Zajfert picked up four saves on the day, including a couple of nice grabs in the second half.
The Warriors return home for a match for the first time since Sept. 3 as they host Humboldt State on Sept. 23 at 4:30 p.m. at Warrior Stadium. Sonoma State visits on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 11:30 a.m.
