Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Warriors blanked for the second time in L.A.

LOS ANGELES — The Stanislaus State women's soccer team was shutout for the second time in as many matches this weekend in Los Angeles as the host Golden Eagles of Cal State L.A. blanked the Warriors 2-0 Sunday afternoon.

The Warriors, who had been shutting out opponents prior to start of CCAA play, open California Collegiate Athletic Association play 0-2-0 for just the first time since 2009. Stan State is 5-2-0 overall heading into next weekend's home matches at Warrior Stadium.

Cal State L.A. won its opening set of home games to begin league play and is 3-2-2 and 2-0-0 CCAA.

"You know when you come to LA you are going to play a very direct team on an extremely small field.  I was proud of our effort and how hard we battled," said head coach Gabriel Bolton.

Stanislaus had to adjust its defensive scheme on the small pitch at Jesse Owens Track. The Warriors battled and were successful until the second half when Victoria Arrendondo scored for L.A. in the 63rd minute for the 1-0 lead that changed the momentum.

Anahie Duran would add a second score for Cal State L.A. in the 73rd minute for the 2-0 decision.

"In the second half we were creating chances and really dominating the game. Unfortunately we couldn't finish one and they got a goal against the run of play which shifted momentum a bit," commented Bolton.

The Golden Eagles out-shot Stan State, 12-8 with each goalkeeper Adriana Maldonado andHaley Crook each grabbing four saves.

Humboldt State visits Turlock on Friday for a 7 p.m. match before Sonoma State comes to Warrior Stadium for a Sunday afternoon showdown.

"It's a long season.  We showed good resilience today. We will regroup and keep improving," Bolton added.
