Art U rallies from behind for upset over Stan State

TURLOCK – In its final non-conference match of the season Stanislaus State was defeated in a five-set battle against Academy of Art on Tuesday at Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena.

The Warriors, now 5-6 overall, had a strong start winning the first two sets, but weren't able to hold as the Urban Knights (2-8) rallied back with three straight set victories to paint the minor upset, 25-20, 25-21, 18-25, 13-15.

Despite the outcome of the match, setter Maddi Seidl had a successful night, matching her season-high with 45 assists. She had also dished 45 assists against Western Oregon on Sept. 10. Seidl also contributed greatly in the back row, landing in second on her team with 19 digs. Blair Ehrlich led with 21 and libero Jocelyn Cervantes chipped in 18.

As a team, the Warriors notched a season-high 91 digs on defense.

Ehrlich led the Warriors with 20 kills on 73 attempts. It was her second 20-kill match of the season. Victoria Larsen followed with eight kills and Taylor Massengale had seven of her own. Middle Blocker Daryan Heathcott added to efforts in the front row with six total blocks (one solo).

The Urban Knights offense and defense alike were led by Ema Causevic with 16 kills and 23 digs. Libero Lyndsay Mlynar had 22 digs, and Kabrina Speakman added 19 of her own.

The Warriors travel to Arcata for CCAA matchup against Humboldt State on Friday, their only conference match this week. Stan State will be back in Fitzpatrick Arena on September 30 as they take on 13th ranked Cal Stan San Bernardino.
