Warriors end weekend 2-0 after victory over Cal State L.A.

TURLOCK – The Stanislaus State women's basketball team had yet another 2-0 weekend with a Saturday night win over Cal State L.A. 63-55 at Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena.

The Warriors (9-9, 7-2 CCAA) held their second place standing in the CCAA while simultaneously bumping the Golden Eagles (9-9, 6-4 CCAA) down a spot with their aggressive rebounding and efficiency at the hoop.

Once again Cassidy Sanders-Curry dominated the game with 21 points and 15 rebounds, setting a new rebounding career high for herself. Tonight was Sanders-Curry's fourth double-double of the season. Reana Hardin followed her with 16 points, going 7-for-15 from the field.

In another high rebounding night for the Warriors, Stan State out-rebounded the Golden Eagles 41-to-33. For the second night in a row Erika Larsen had nine rebounds, and she added four blocked shots to her resume, a new personal best. Riley Holladay added eight more rebounds for the Warriors.

Stan State came out aggressive, building to a seven-point lead at the end of the first quarter, which they were able to increase, ending the first half up nine points (36-27) with a half court swish made by Ana Burch.

With three consecutive layups by Sanders-Curry, the Warriors made their way to a 16-point lead at 45-29 in the third period. Cal State L.A. came close to tying up the game in the final period (54-51) but the Warriors fought to take home the eight-point victory.

Stan State went 24-for-60 from the field, shooting at 40 percent for the night.

The Golden Eagles were led by Da'Jah Jackson with 20 points, and she was followed by Samantha Lee with 13 points. Racheal Di'Regolo was Cal State L.A.'s leading rebounder with eight rebounds.

The Warriors will be on the road next week, at Cal Poly Pomona and Humboldt State, before getting back to Fitzpatrick Arena on Jan. 27 to host the UC San Diego Tritons in another CCAA matchup.
