POMONA — There is no stopping
Cassidy Sanders-Curry and the Warriors right now. The Stanislaus State women's basketball team won in Pomona for the second straight season as the Warriors blew-out host Cal Poly Pomona, 84-68, Thursday night at Kellogg Arena.
Sanders-Curry missed just two shots en route to another outstanding night, scoring 23 points to lead the Warriors as they won their fourth straight game while improving to 10-9 overall and 8-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. In the process, the second-place Warriors (and front-runner UC San Diego) are starting to separate themselves from the rest of the conference.
Sander-Curry scored her second straight 20-point game — and the fifth such output in the last seven games — by shooting 7 of 9 from the floor and 9 of 12 from the foul line.
Three other Warriors also netted double figures in scoring in the rout with
Riley Holladay turning in 13 points.
Ana Burch and
Reana Hardin each chipped in 12 points, as well. Holladay also contributed in many other areas of the game with five rebounds, six assists, a blocked shot and a steal. Hardin had four steals.
Two different 9-0 runs were key to the Warriors scoring on the night. In the second quarter, the Warriors used a 9-0 run to stretch a five-point lead into a 12-point advantage. Then, already up by nine points late in the third period, the Warriors scored nine more unanswered points — spanning into the first possession of the fourth quarter — for an 18-point, 68-50 lead.
Cal Poly Pomona (8-8, 6-4 CCAA) was led by Chelsea Waddy-Blow's 22 points.
For the night, the Warriors shot an amazing 57.8 percent from the field, including a 60-percent shooting clinic in the second half.
Stanislaus will return home to Turlock tonight arriving on campus in the early hours of Friday before hitting back on the road again to go up to Arcata Friday evening for a Saturday meeting against Humboldt State.
