ARCATA — Whether it's Lumberjack Arena or the East Gym, Arcata remains a tough place to play for the Stanislaus State women's basketball team as the hosts defeated the Warriors, 73-65, Saturday night.
The Warriors came up short as they faced a Lumberjack team determined to shoot well at home as Stan State falls to 8-3 in CCAA play. The Warriors (10-10 overall) remain in second place behind UC San Diego (10-1).
Ana Burch led Stanislaus with 22 points and
Reana Hardin added 19 points.
Cassidy Sanders-Curry finally cool off from her hot streak as she scored 10 points with eight rebounds.
Humboldt State (6-12, 5-6 CCAA) was led by Catharine Rees who had 26 points, including eight three-pointers. As a team, HSU made 11 triples compared to the Warriors' six.
The Lumberjacks led wire-to-wire and had their biggest lead at 14 points with 5:42 left to play in the first half.
Stanislaus got as close as four points in the fourth quarter but four straight points by Tyra Turner turned the Warriors' rally away. Turner finished with 14 points.
The Warriors are now 1-11 in Arcata since the start of the 2007 season when HSU joined the CCAA. Stanislaus snapped a 10-game losing streak at Humboldt State last Jan. 9 in a 68-59 win.
