TURLOCK – After almost a month on the road, the Stanislaus State women's basketball team begins the homestand with a 71-55 loss to Sonoma State Friday night at Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena.
Now 6-9 overall and 4-2 in the conference, the Warriors struggled to keep up with Seawolves' fast-tempo offense.
Stan State was 0-for-13 from the three-point range until the end of the third period, ending with a 5-for-22 mark behind the arch. The Warriors were also out-rebounded by the Seawolves 35-26,
Riley Holladay had 11 rebounds, matching her career high and leading both teams for the night.
Reana Hardin was the top scorer for Stanislaus with 21 points, the only Warrior to score double digits.
Sonoma State kept a commanding lead on the Warriors, putting Stan State into a 19-point deficit at the end of the second quarter. The Warriors made a sizeable comeback in the second half, closing the gap to a mere seven points at 44-37.
Stan State ended the game shooting at 28.3 percent, going 17-for-60 from the field but was a sizzling16-for-18 (88.9 percent) from the free throw line.
Jessica Mitz led Sonoma State's aggressive offense with 17 points. Three other Seawolves scored double digits, Madison Burroughs with 15, Kylie Kiech with 13, and Carly Gill with 10. Mitz and Burroughs each had four assists.
The Seawolves (8-5, 4-3 CCAA) shot 49.2 percent from the field, and 72.7 percent from the free throw line.
The Warriors will be back at Fitzpatrick Arena Saturday night to take on the San Francisco State Gators at 5:30 p.m.
