Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Warrior men complete sweep of 101-North teams with win over Humboldt State

ARCATA — The 101-North trip may be the toughest double in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, but the Stanislaus State men's soccer team has been able to step up to the challenge.

For the second straight time going on this trip, the Warriors return to the Valley with two victories and six points in the standings as they defeated Humboldt State, 3-2, on Sunday.

Ryan Chaney's goal in the 80th minute stopped the HSU rally and broke the tie as the Warriors improved to 4-3-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the CCAA. Stan State also won on Friday at Sonoma State, marking this the second straight time that the Warriors won both games along US highway 101.

Stanislaus also won both games at Sonoma State and Humboldt State — two institutions connected by highway 101 — in 2015, the last time the Warriors went that direction. The Warriors are also 7-1-1 in Arcata in their last nine trips to the North Coast.

Humboldt State was undefeated before Friday and is now 6-2-0, 3-2-0 in CCAA.

With the Warriors up 2-0 at intermission, Humboldt State came back in the second half. First it was a penalty kick boal by Daniel Allred in the 69th minute, then it was a Francisco Calderon score in the 75th minute.

But Chaney would answer five minutes after the tied game. Bradlee Taylor sent in a corner kick into the box with Chaney finishing the play for the eventual game-winner.

Stan State was credited with 11 shots with eight on goal, forcing HSU goalkeeper Chris Cherms to earn five saves.

Tomas Zajfert guarded the net to pick up the win with three saves.

The Warriors will play five straight home matches starting with Thursday night's non-conference game against Benedictine-Mesa. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
