Physical men's soccer match resulted in 1-1 draw

TURLOCK — A physical match that included 10 cards of various colors and 35 fouls resulted in a 1-1 men's soccer match at Warrior Stadium Friday night.

In the end of the heated California Collegiate Athletic Association contest, the Warriors and the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes each picked up a point. Stanislaus State moved to 5-3-4 overall and 2-2-3 in CCAA play. CSUSB is now 7-6-1, 5-3-1.

The Warriors are now unbeaten in the last five matches at 3-0-2.

While the Warriors would have liked to gain three points in the standings to inch closer to the top six, they will take the one point for a total of nine. Stan State is two points out of sixth place — the spot to be in to qualify for the CCAA conference tournament.

Matthew Waldron scored in the 23rd minute on a cross from Daniel Galvan to tie the score. San Bernardino struck early with a Kevin Aguilar goal at 6:05.

After just nine total fouls and two yellow cards in the first half, things turn ugly late in the second. Teams were issued four yellows and a red card in the final 10 minutes of regulation play. The sides were called for 13 fouls in the second half. In overtime, a total of 13 more fouls were called in 20 minutes of action with three more cautions. Two of those cautions were players' second of the night — turning them into red.

Each side took 12 shots and seven shot on goal with each goalkeeper — Jacob Huber and Patrick Colombana — earning six saves.

Stan State next host Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. Cal Poly Pomona (11-3-0, 7-2-0), second place in the CCAA, took a 3-2 win at Chico State for its four straight win.
