Warriors suffer setback against CCAA North leader, Sonoma State

­­­TURLOCK – Competing in another CCAA North matchup, the Stanislaus State volleyball team lost in straight sets to Sonoma State at Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena on Wednesday night.
 
The Warriors fell to the Seawolves 15-25, 16-25, and 20-25, and are now 2-21 overall and 2-13 in the CCAA. Sonoma State is now 16-7 and 10-4 in league.
 
Setter Jordan Tilley led Stan State with seven kills from the front row, and also facilitated the offense with 13 assists. Sara Schell led the Warriors on defense with 12 digs. Defensive specialist Hailey Gruetzmacher had eight digs for the Warriors and libero Kaitlyn Iwamoto had seven digs. In the front row Sierra Adams led defensively with five blocks.
 
Although the Warriors battled with SSU, the Seawolves held the advantage over Stan State for the duration of the match, out-hitting the Warriors 38-24. They also out-served Stan State seven aces to four aces, and out-dug the home squad 40-36.
 
Caiti Wiesner led Sonoma State's offense with nine kills. Amy Trephan followed with eight kills and Kelsey McIntire had seven kills. Setter Courtney Seda ran the Seawolves offense with 32 assists. In the back row, libero Megan Bohorquez led with 14 digs.
 
This Saturday the Warriors will host their final home match of the season and honor their four season in a pre-match ceremony. Stan State will challenge Humboldt State at the Fitz, with the first serve scheduled for 7 p.m.
