Warriors host CCAA home opener against Cal State San Bernardino

This week the Warriors will host their CCAA home opener against Cal State San Bernardino in a weekday competition on Wednesday. On Saturday, Stan State will host Cal Poly Pomona in another CCAA matchup starting at 3 p.m.

Series Notes: The Warriors are 12-27 against Cal State San Bernardino, going 1-1 against the Coyotes last season. Stan State beat CSUSB in San Bernardino on Dec. 29, 2016, 66-56. The Last time the Warriors faced CSUSB was on Jan. 28 at home. The Warriors were defeated by three points against the Coyotes, 65-68 … Stan State is 7-31 against Cal Poly Pomona, going undefeated against the Broncos the past two seasons and establishing a three-game winning streak. Stan State last faced Cal Poly Pomona on Jan. 19 in Pomona. Stan State dominated Cal Poly Pomona 84-68 on the road, in their only competition against the Broncos for the season.
 
CCAA Home Opener
In the past four years, the Warriors have won three out of their last four CCAA home opening games. Last season Stan State defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills 66-53 to make their debut. In 2015, the Warriors beat Cal State San Bernardino by one point (58-57), banking a free throw with a minute left to go in the game. Before losing to Chico State in 2014, the Warriors took down the No. 6 Wildcats 71-68 in 2013 to kick start their conference season.
 
Making A Debut
Freshman Forward Caitlin Keding made an outstanding debut in her first weekend of collegiate preseason play. Against Concordia on Saturday, Keding led the Warriors with an impressive 20 points. Keding banked six three-pointers against Cavaliers, five in the first half alone. Keding's shooting efficiency exceeded last season's record of five three-pointers made by an individual in a single game.
 
All-Tournament Honors
At the conclusion of last weekend's CCAA/GNAC Challenge, Warriors Brittney Livingston and Caitlin Keding were two of five players chosen for the all-tournament team. Livingston had 28 points, six rebounds, three blocks, two assists, and two steals combined against Northwest Nazarene and Concordia-Portland. Keding earned the honor from her outstanding performance with six three-pointers and 20 points against Concordia on Saturday.
 
Warrior Accomplishments
Stepping up as an upperclassman leader, Junior Caprina Pipion was impressive in last weekend's preseason tournament with five rebounds against NNU and nine rebounds against Concordia ... Zahria Hendrix had six assists against CU, one short of last season's individual best.
 
CCAA Preseason Coaches Poll
In the recently released poll taken by CCAA coaches, the Warriors were predicted to finish ninth in the CCAA this season.

About Cal State San Bernardino:   In preseason play the Coyotes have been led by Arianna Knox, averaging 10 points per game. Lunden Junious-Reliford is the leading rebounder for Cal State San Bernardino grabbing an average of 8.5 rebounds per game ... Last weekend at the D2 Shootout hosted by Western Oregon, the Coyotes defeated Saint Martin's 69-44, and lost to Western Oregon 50-70. 

About Cal Poly Pomona: Priscilla Brooks currently leads the Broncos with an average of 14 points per game. Brooks is also tied with Chelsea Waddy-Blow and Alyssa Benton averaging six rebounds per game to lead CPP ...  The Broncos competed in the CCAA/PACWEST Challenge last weekend, losing to APU 72-75, and Point Loma 67-77.
