SAN JOSE — The new-look Stanislaus State women's basketball team show promise in the upcoming season despite losing to San Jose State Sunday afternoon as the Warriors challenged the Division I program before the 83-72 decision.
Letty Infante impressed with her inside game, leading the Warriors with 16 points, making 8 of 15 shots.
Brittney Livingston scored most of her points in the fourth to finish with nine points.
Caprina Pipion also scored nine and freshman
Kyanna Davis had 11.
Stan State won the rebounding game, 57-49.
Erika Larsen pulled nine rebounds.
The Warriors kept pace with the Spartans in a game they are not supposed to win since it's against a Division I program until late in the third quarter. SJSU used a 12-3 run to close out the third after Stan State tied the game at 49-49 on a Larsen layup. That San Jose State surge turned into a 20-3 run as the Spartans pull away early in the fourth quarter en route to the win.
Down by as many as 17 points in the fourth, Stan State fought back and got within eight with a run highlighted by six Livingston points.
Early on, the Spartans were only able to stay in the game with Stanislaus State by making wide-open three-pointers. SJSU had seven three-pointers in the first half to hang on to a 41-32 halftime lead.
Four different Spartans scored in double digits while SJSU connected on 9 of 35 from the arch.
Stanislaus State plays another exhibition contest against a Division I team on Tuesday when the Warriors travel to Cal State Bakersfield.
