Warriors host annual CCAA/GNAC Challenge

This week the Warriors start the regular season with their first two non-conference matchups that will go on record. On Friday and Saturday Stan State will host the annual CCAA/GNAC Challenge that features two teams from both the California Collegiate Athletic Association and the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The Warriors will play Northwest Nazarene at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, and challenge Concordia-Portland at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Series Notes: The Warriors are 2-4 against Northwest Nazarene, having not played them in eight years. Stan State lost to the Night Hawks twice in 2009, and their most recent victory over NNU was in 2008, 73-71 … Stan State faced Concordia-Portland for the first-time last season in the CCAA/GNAC Challenge. The Warriors were defeated by the Cavaliers in Portland, 52-70. 
 
CCAA/GNAC Challenge
The four-team tournament features the Warriors, Cal State Monterey Bay, Northwest Nazarene, and Concordia-Portland, playing two games each. Game times vary each day.

New Arrivals
This season the Warrior women's basketball team welcomed seven new players onto their squad, six of which are true freshman. San Francisco State transfer Kaitlin Dadalt rounds out Stan State's group of new girls. 
 
Exhibition Competition
The Warriors competed against two DI programs in preseason exhibition games last week. On Sunday, the Warriors traveled to San Jose State, losing 72-83. Despite the loss, the Warriors were able to hold their own, with 57 rebounds to the Spartans' 49. On Saturday, the Warriors challenged CSU Bakersfield, with a 35-58 loss against the Roadrunners, once again out-rebounding their opponent 41-40.
 
Rising to the Challenge
Senior Center Erika Larsen held her own against the Division I competition, leading both teams with 10 rebounds against CSUB and earning nine rebounds against SJSU.
 
Stepping Up the Competition
This season the Warriors are facing three division one programs in preparation for another tough conference season. Last weekend Stan State traveled to San Jose State and CSU Bakersfield. In December, the Warriors will face Nevada to finish off their non-conference DI competitions.
 
CCAA Preseason Coaches Poll
In the recently released poll taken by CCAA coaches, the Warriors were predicted to finish ninth in the CCAA this season.

About Northwest Nazarene:  The Night Hawks were led by Avery Albrecht against the College of Idaho with 18 points. Albrecht was 7-for-12 from the field, 2-for-3 from the 3-point arch, and 2-for-2 from the free throw line ... NNU has played two exhibition games so far this preseason, defeating the College of Idaho 101-86 at home, and beating Idaho State 95-87 in Pocatello.

About Cal State Monterey Bay: Danielle Hartzog led the Cavaliers in their exhibition against Southern Utah with 20 points. She shot 35% from the field and 75% from the free throw line. Bailey Cartwright was CU's next highest scorer with 12 points and led the team with seven rebounds. ... Concordia has played two exhibition games so far this preseason, losing to Southern Utah University 62-82 and were defeated by Oregon State 47-90.
