Warriors fall to AAU despite Livingston and Larsen's high scoring

SAN FRANCISCO - Unable to put an end to their streak of losses, the Stanislaus State women's basketball team fell to Academy of Art 68-79 on Friday night at the Kezar Pavilion.

With the loss the Warriors are now 5-7 overall, and the Urban Knights have advanced to 2-10.

Surpassing their previous individual bests and setting new personal records, Brittney Livingston and Erika Larsen were Stan state's sharp shooters against the Urban Knights. Livingston led the Warriors with 22 points going 8-for-11 from the field, 3-for-3 from the three-point arch, and 3-for-3 from the free-throw line. She tagged on three assists and a steal. Larsen scored 18 points, had nine rebounds, and three blocks for Stan State.

Kyanna Davis also played aggressive against AAU with five rebounds and three steals. Caprina Pipion also had three steals and Lizzy Alexander led with four assists.

As a team the Warriors had their second best shooting game of the season, shooting 47.5 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from the three-point arch, and 61.5 percent from the free-throw line.

In the first quarter Stan State held the lead for a majority of the period, never able to push more than four points ahead of AAU. In the last minute of the quarter two field goals by Academy of Art put them in the lead to end the period (18-19).

The Warriors took back possession of the lead quickly into the second quarter but were unable to hold onto it as the Urban Knights shooting proficiency matched that of Stan State. A layup and a three-pointer by AAU in the last few minutes of the quarter gave the Urban Knights the advantage before heading into half time.

Patterns held in the third period as the lead traded back and forth consistently, but the Warriors manages to never fall behind by more than four points. Stan State pushed ahead with a layup by Livingston and two free-throws by Davis to finish the quarter (57-54).

In the final period, the Warriors gained a six-point advantage on Academy of Art less than two minutes into the quarter, giving Stan State hope for victory, but that lead quickly slipped away and the Warriors were unable to reclaim it. AAU banked six free-throws in the last minute of the game, putting them in a winning position.

Helena Orts led the Urban Knights with 29 points. She made nine field-goals and nine free-throws. Ines Medina was also efficient at the hoop with 19 points. Orts led the team with 12 rebounds and six steals, and Ines had five steals. Jazzlyn Brewsters had an impressive 14 assists for AAU. As a team the Urban Knights shot 46.2 percent from the field, 41.2 percent from the three-point arc, and 85.7 percent from the free-throw line.

The Warriors have a break for the holidays and will play their next game on December 29th at home against Cal State San Marcos.
