Warriors score 24 runs to win twice over CSUDH

CARSON – The Stanislaus State softball team scored 24 runs on 33 hits to sweep a doubleheader with 15-2 and 9-1 victories over Cal State Dominguez Hills at the Toro Diamond on Saturday.

The Warriors ended their first day of conference play with two wins, and are now 6-2 overall, and 2-0 in the CCAA. The Toros fell to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in league.

Ruby Quiralte set a new single game record with seven runs batted in. She went 4-for-5 with a three-run home run. She had an RBI single in the first inning, drove in two runs with a single in the fifth, and plated a run with another single to center in the sixth.

Stan State's first game of the series was a monumental one. It was the first time the Warriors scored 15 runs in a CCAA game since Feb. 22, 2013 at Cal State San Bernardino when they took home the victory 15-6.

The Warriors turned a close game into a blow out by scoring 11 runs in the final two innings. Seven of those runs came in the seventh.

Lia Tom went 2-for-3 and belted her first collegiate home run. Cassidy Duke went 3-for-4 with three RBI, and Sierra Mariano and Alexus Martinez both went 2-for-4. The Warriors out-hit the Toros 18-4 in the first game.

Kylie Ragsdale earned the win pitching four innings, and Anyssa Garvin threw three hitless innings to finish out the game and earn the save.

In game two Nicolette Vizcaino and Megan Stacy each went 3-for-4 and Duke doubled twice and drove in four runs. Tom also had two more hits and drove in two scores.

Duke's two run double in the fifth keyed a five-run inning for the Warriors to make it 6-1.

Kristin Borst earned the win in the circle by allowing three hits in four innings. Stacy threw the final three innings for a save. The four Warrior pitchers combined to allow just eight hits and three runs in the doubleheader.

The series concludes tomorrow with another doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
