CARSON – Two Warriors pitchers threw a four-hit shutout to win the series finale as the Warriors complete the four-game sweep over Cal State Dominguez Hills. Stanislaus State won 7-3 and 12-0 in five innings over the Toros on Sunday at the Toro Diamond.
The Warriors improved to 8-2 overall and 4-0 in the CCAA with their four victories on the road. It was the first time Stan State swept a CCAA four-game set on the road since April of 2010 at Cal State East Bay. Stan State start the year 8-2 for the first time since 2009. The Toros are now 1-8 overall and 0-4 in conference.
Stacy earned the victory in game two pitching four innings with two hits without giving up a run.
Kristin Borst threw the final inning and gave up just two singles.
The Warriors continued to show-off their strong offense in game two with
Katelyn McDonald as the lead. McDonald went 2-for-3 with a double and four RBI.
Nicolette Vizcaino and
Morgan Balestreri each went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Stacy went 3-for-4 at the plate and
Alexus Martinez and
Lia Tom also went 2-for-3 to total the Warriors 15 hits.
Stan State started off the second game with three runs in the second inning. They scored nine more times in the third inning, highlighted by McDonald's three-run double down the right field line.
In the first game of the day,
Anyssa Garvin was the winning pitcher, throwing four innings with five hits and no runs. She also belted a two-run home run to help her cause.
Kylie Ragsdale, McDonald, and Balestreri added to the Warriors offense each hitting a double.
In all during the four-game series, the Warriors outscored Cal State Dominguez Hills 43-6 with 57 hits (to 23). As a team, Stan State batted .429 with a team ERA of 1.62.
Stan State will make its CCAA home debut CCAA next weekend when the Warriors host Cal State Monterey Bay. The first game of the series is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. on Friday at the Warrior Softball Field.
