CHICO — Chico State beat Stanislaus State in men's basketball for the third time this season — and twice in three days — as the Wildcats posted a 63-47 win over the Warriors Saturday night at Acker Gym.
The Warriors faired a little better on Saturday as opposed to their home game, in front of a large student-body crowd, two days earlier when they lost by 28 points. They held the high scoring Wildcats to 63 points before falling to 6-19 overall and 3-15 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Chico State improved to 20-6, 13-5 to keep pace with UC San Diego, San Francisco State and Sonoma State at the top of the CCAA Standings.
The Wildcats shot just 30 percent and made only seven three-pointers Saturday night after burying the Warriors two nights ago hitting 54 percent and nailed 17 treys.
Kaelen Mitchell had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, but
Vondel Faniel and
Kyle Gouveia combined for just 13 points and seven rebounds.
Jaelen Ragsdale chipped in nine points.
Robert Duncan led Chico State with 18 points and Isaiah Ellis scored 11. Jalen McFerren, who torched the Warriors for 26 points with eight three-pointers in Turlock, scored just nine.
Stan State will wrap-up its season next weekend on the road with games at Cal State Monterey Bay (Friday) and Cal State East Bay (Saturday).
