ROHNERT PARK — Returning to the field with fire after suffering two losses yesterday, the Stanislaus State softball team bounced back earning a 9-5 victory over Sonoma State before being defeated 4-1 in the final game of the series on Saturday at the Seawolf Softball Field.
Throughout the weekend the Warrior defense was put to the test after idle time off the field. Fortunately with their strong abilities at the plate Stan State was able to pick up a win on the road with a 1-3 weekend. After completing their second CCAA series of the season the Warriors are 9-5 and 5-3. Sonoma State is now 8-5, 4-4 in conference.
In game one,
Ruby Quiralte headed the Warriors resilient offense with two hits with a double and three runs batted in.
Katelyn McDonald went 2-for-3, also with three RBI, and
Makenzie Sylvester rounded it out with another double and drove in a run for the Warriors.
Stan State earned a 6-2 lead heading into the third inning of game one with a five-run streak second inning.
Alexus Martinez delivered a single with bases loaded ushering in
Lia Tom for the first run of the inning. McDonald later drove in two more runs with a single to right field and Quiralte doubled to left center plating two more Warriors before the Seawolves can end the rally.
Kylie Ragsdale earned the win from the circle in the first game pitching four innings. She let off five hits and only one run, with one strike out.
Kristin Borst threw five innings in game two giving up three earned runs on seven hits with a strikeout and two walks.
Sonoma State had four one-run innings in the finale to pile up the 4-1 win. Karly Macadangdang had three hits in the twinbill to lead SSU.
Stan State will be back in Turlock next weekend for a four-game series against No. 1 ranked Humboldt State. The Warriors will host two doubleheaders starting at 4 p.m. on Friday, and Noon on Saturday.
