TURLOCK – On the first day of its CCAA home opening weekend, the Stanislaus State softball team lost twice against No. 1 Humboldt State, losing 4-1 and 7-2.
Despite the Warriors' best efforts, Humboldt State proved their excellence taking two games from Stan State by outscoring the Warriors 11-3. The Lumberjacks are 11-0 overall (their best start since 2005) and 6-0 in the CCAA. Stan State will head into day two of the series with a 9-7 record, 5-5 in conference play.
Alexus Martinez had six hits in the doubleheader, including a 4-for-4 game two with an RBI.
Kylie Ragsdale was 1-for-3 in game one with a double to right center. Early on in game two,
Megan Stacy doubled down the left field line driving in
Cassidy Duke for the run.
In game one, the Warriors impressively held their own against the country's leading Division II team, keeping a tied score (1-1) up until the sixth inning. The Lumberjacks rounded out the game with two runs in inning six, and one more in the top of the seventh.
Kylie Ragsdale was the losing pitcher in game one pitching all seven-innings. She gave up three earned runs on eight hits and walked two batters.
Humboldt State kicked off game two with four runs in the first inning, starting with a throwing error by
Ruby Quiralte. The Lumberjacks also had three home runs during the doubleheader.
Anyssa Garvin took the loss from the circle in game two, giving up four earned runs on seven hits, walked two batters, and struck out one.
The Warriors and Lumberjacks will finish out the series tomorrow morning with another doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. at the Warrior softball field.
