Warrior softball goes 1-1 on opening day of Desert Stinger

LAS VEGAS – The Stanislaus State softball team begins play at the MSUB Desert Stinger on Friday, going 1-1 with a loss against West Texas A&M and a victory over Concordia Portland.
 
After starting off their day with a 8-0 loss in five innings against No. 4 West Texas A&M, the Warriors came back in the nightcap against the Cavaliers with a 9-4 win.
 
Stan State (2-1) didn't fail to deliver their aggressive offense to the Cavaliers with three Warrior doubles. Alexus Martinez went 3-for-4 with a double and scored three times. Katelyn McDonald went 2-for-4 with a double with two RBIs. Ruby Quiralte also went 2-for-4 with a double and drove in one run. Cassidy Duke also drove in two more runs.
 
The Warriors began dominating the Cavaliers with four runs in the third inning. A hit by McDonald advanced two runners and plated Morgan Balestreri to make it 2-0. In the Warriors next at bat Duke drove in two more runs with a single to left center. Then, Lia Tom delivered a RBI single to cap the third inning rally to make it 5-0. 

The Warriors would score three more times in the fourth inning, highlighted by doubles by Martinez and McDonald. Quiralte made it 8-1 with another RBI single.

Anyssa Garvin (1-0) earned the win throwing five innings and gave up just two runs and two hits. Kristin Borst pitched the final two innings for the save.

Against West Texas A&M earlier in the day, the Warriors collected four hits in the loss. Megan Stacy suffered the loss as the Warriors' starting pitcher.
 
Stan State will play at the same time tomorrow versus California Baptist at 2 p.m. and the University of Mary at 4:30 p.m.
