SAN FRANCISCO — The last time the Stanislaus State women's basketball team played at The Swamp,
Alysa Valentine made eight consecutive three-pointers to blow the Gators away. This time, in front of a local TV audience and a spirited student crowd, the Warriors almost ran away with another victory but had to hold off a SF State rally for the 64-57 win.
Cassidy Sanders-Curry scored 15 points to lead Stan State as the Warriors snapped a three-game losing streak to improve to 11-12 overall and 9-5 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Erika Larsen scored 12 points and
Reana Hardin chipped in 10 to pace the Warriors. Stanislaus hangs on to a share of third place with Cal Poly Pomona heading into Saturday's match up at Sonoma State.
The Warriors led by as many as 18 points in the third quarter, but San Francisco State (2-18, 0-13 CCAA) staged a comeback, going on a 20-5 run. Donae Moguel's three-pointer at 9:01 left made it a 49-46 game.
Lizzy Alexander answered minutes later with a trey to start a 6-2 run as the Warriors held on. Alexander finished with nine points and
Riley Holladay had nine points and eight rebounds plus five assists to help the team.
There was no three-point magic this time around. In fact the Warriors only made five of 10 from distance, but they didn't need to take the long jumpers as the lane was available almost all night as Sanders-Curry and
Ana Burch were able to drive to the basket.
